March 2016 Newsletter

2015 was a great year…

In 2015, The Hive become an official registered charity, and we found a fantastic base and supportive community in St Mary’s Hornsey Rise Church.

We held our first fundraiser on 25th November 2015 at The Shaftesbury Tavern, just around the corner from the church. We enjoyed an excellent night of quizzing and raised over £270 thanks to your generous donations.

…and 2016 started brilliantly

Thanks to our generous supporters in the local community and further afield – individuals as well as corporations, such as Tunnock’s – we started the year by taking stock of the food donations we received over the festive period. Thanks to Matt and Jonathan for their great efforts sorting these! As you can see, the number of donations has been fantastic and puts us in a good position to start putting food parcels together.

We have been lucky enough to receive grants from The Gunners Fund and The Mission Hall Fund, which will be a huge help towards ensuring that we can run the food bank for as long as it is needed. So far we have invested in some much-needed storage so we can keep our food supplies in a clean and dry place.

We also recently went on a shopping trip to pick up some items we were short on – thanks to volunteer Jess for all her help, and to the extremely helpful staff at Asda Edmonton.

The Hive in print…and on Twitter

We were very excited to get a mention in the Islington Gazette on 23 February – if you’d like to see the article, it’s available here. We also got ourselves a Twitter account – we are @thehivefoodbank if you’d like to follow us.

And the best is yet to come!

2016 is going to be an exciting year for us, and we hope to have as many of you involved as possible.  We’ll be holding more fundraisers throughout the year and look forward to a quiz re-match as well as some other exciting activities.

We’re always on the lookout for food donations (our shopping list of the items we really need is attached), so if you wish to donate – or if you have any questions or ideas about The Hive –  please get in touch with us on hivefoodbank@gmail.com.

Thank you!
